The Crucible, The Red Scare and Other Which Trials

I BELIEVE I HAVE SOLVED THE HYPERLINK PROBLEM. SORRY FOR THE INCONVENIENCE.
1. What was Miller's point in writing The Crucible?

http://people.stu.ca/~hunt/22230405/plays/crucible/Why.htm

This sight is very helpful in realizing why Miller decided to write The Crucible. He clearly states he point with the quote "Fear doesn't travel well; just as it can warp judgment, its absence can diminish memory's truth. What terrifies one generation is likely to bring only a puzzled smile to the next." (Arthur Miller)

http://warren.dusd.net/~dstone/Resources/11P/M_NY.htm

In this site, Miller explains where his ideas came from and why he wrote the crucibal. It gives, in great detail, explanations of everything he combined to write The Crucible. At one point he explains how he finally decided the play was coming along when he "found himself in it": Paragraph 15.

2. How are McCarthyism, the Red Scare, Arthur Miller, and The Crucible interrelated?
http://www.123helpme.com/preview.asp?id=84679

This site gives a small explanation of the similarities between McCarthyism and the Salem Witch Trials.

http://www.megaessays.com/viewpaper/88240.html

Here are some similarities that I hadn't even thought of. If this doesn't explain anything, you're on your own.

3. Document other times in American history when 'witch hunts' were conducted and discuss the outcomes of the Salem witch hunt and the other witch hunts you find. What do they all have in common?

http://www.commondreams.org/views02/0604-01.htm

Here is an explanation of why the War in Irag is turning into a witch hunt. It is said that the war is similar to the witch hunts only now it is racial discrimination, no witchcraft.

Wow this is very interesting. I will have to leave this one up to you to read. You should easily see how this is a witch hunt, in it's own right.

Your first site wouldn't work on someone else's blog either. I don't know if the hyperlink is bad or it just won't work. Your other hyperlinked site is good...nice and short.

The similarities site informed me of things I didn't know. Good research.

You took a unique approach to the witch hunt question and you found a descriptive explanation for it. I would have never thought of the war in iraq turning into a witch hunt. Good job...might want to find additional information.

Interesting perspective on the war. I like that kind of stuff. Good work altogether.

The top link didn't work, but i think i had the same one and it's a good one. Really gives a firsthand example on Miller's inspiration.

Muffmack said...

you might want to change the link that goes to the beginning of an essay that you can buy.

Your first site didn't work. I liked your how you used the war in Iraq as a witch. I never thought of that.

1.The site you listed for the first question did a good job in explaining Miller's
point in writing The Crucible. Your description of the site was also good. But it would be better if you listed more sites for each question or added some more
information.

2.The second website didn't really provide much information, you might want to find a new website.

3. The last website you posted was interesting because it talked about how in Iraq it is turning into a witch hunt. The only difference is how it is racial discrimination not, witchcraft.

1) this site was very helpful..your descrition was great also.
2) this site was somewhat of a help...but i'm not even able to click on the second hyperlink.
3)hey i can't click on your links :)but i'm sure they're great

I like how the second site was short and to the point. The first site didn't work on Murpy's? blog either. Nice job.

1. Great site for the first one, yeah you know it already doesn't open but I had the same one. It gives a great description.

2. I like your first site, concise and to the point...good work. (Thanks for not picking one that has a scrollbar about the size of a toothpick.:))

Your second link is amazing-great job on picking your sites; they explain exactly what's asked and they're not so lengthy!

3. Great first link! This is the first of the Iraq war I've seen - good job, way to be creative!

I also like your site about the witch hunt at UCLA, it's interesting to read something new and learn a little from it.

Great job on this assignment! :]

1.) I couldn't reach this site, but your summary gives a good explanation of Miller's reason for writing the piece and how he knew it was going to be good.
2.) While reading the first paragraph of the bookrags site, i stopped and said, "wow" b/c it makes such a good point

1. Only your first and third sites didn't work for me; the second was hyperlinked just fine...
2. I liked what I read on this site. The essay seemed to apply specifically to our topic and provide intentional comparisons, but it is a little inconveniant that you would have to purchase the rest of it to get the full concept.
3. I had a lot of trouble trying to find this one. Your summary makes it sound good, but it is too general and doesn't tell me what it is really about. All the sites should be informational... I would like to hear about what they say that makes them that way.
Good Job!

(i accidentally pushed publish)..anyway, it made such a good point about steryotyping!
3.) The one about the witch hunt on the professors at UCLA was so interesting! It seems like all people want to do is point fingers at someone to start a riot--they just can't have peace, can they?!

Make sure you hyperlink your last two sites for question number three because they are not hyperlinked right now. Good start though.

Kayla Jessen said...

You have a very good description for all of your sites. I know you are working on the hyperlinking thing, sorry for the last comment.

Kayla Jessen said...

I like how you answered question number three. I never thought of it that way. You also might want to add some sites for some more support. Having two sites for each question will help you to do that. GOOD JOB!

Your first site didn't work. I like the site that told how McCarthyism and the RedScare are interrelated. And as for your last site, where does it talk about a witch hunt?

Landon Schade said...

1)Wow...i cant seem to read some of your things, maybe change your font...i couldnt get to the first website-not hyperlinked?
2)Actually i couldnt get to the first two sites but i am on the third one you gave...this was an informative site
3)You gave plenty of sites to support everything even though 1 or 2 didnt work for me but that is ok. I liked the sites that did work.

I especially enjoyed the witch hunt on the UCLA professors, unique and interesting. and the site that didn't work is the same as mine and it was amazing while it survived. anywho, it would be neat if u stated his quote after the 1st site.

and interesting view on the war, makes you think. good job.

1. This first site link doesn't work.
2. The second site is cool, I have seen it before, but it would be cool to be able to read the rest.
3. That is very interesting about the war in Iraq being a witch hunt.

1. Good job, Jordan. Great research. These sites are very informative and clear.
2. I like your summarizations. They are clear, but short and to the point. They don't drag on with useless information. Great job.
3. Overall, I thought you completed this assignment well. Your sites were informative and helpful. Great job!

Your first site doesnt work. I think that it needs to be hyperlinked.

Anonymous said...

Your second site wasnt that informative. Maybe a site with a little bit more info.

Anonymous said...

I liked the last site. It was interesting. Good work

Ford Racer said...

Good job, but how does the last site apply as a witch hunt?

BUBBLES said...

The last site is a witch-hunt because they are accusing the professors without knowing that they are actually guilty.

Morgan Esser said...

1. Your first site did a great job of explaining why Miller wrote the Crucible.

2. The second site was okay...but it didn't really provide a lot of helpful information. Keep looking for something more informative.

3. Good example. Never thought of that one, but you are right!

Keep up the good work.

The War in Iraq is becoming a witch hunt, and I know America is involved, but does it count as an American witch hunt?
